Philly Trip & Amish Country

Last week I went on a road trip to Philadelphia with my friends & met up with my boyfriend.  It was really nice to get out of the house.  Plus, the weather was absolutely gorgeous that day!  We went to Geno's to eat a classic philly cheesesteak sandwich & did sight seeing at the stairs that Rocky ran up ;P  I haven't blogged in a LONG time so be prepared for a massive amount of pictures below from my trip:

My friend & I made sure we knew how to order so we wouldn't be sent to the back of the line. HAHA so I ordered "one...cheese..wit"  (Translation:  One Philly Cheesesteak with cheese wiz & onions) It was so delicious & that lasted me most of the day ;P

My friends & I jumping on the "Rocky" stairs :)

Yeah I know we look like tourists, but we had to take a picture in front of the Rocky statue! ;P

My outfit for that day:
  • 60s Green Wool Jacket
  • 60s Pink & Green Pin
  • Plain Mossimo Grey V-neck T-shirt underneath
  • Gap Jeans
  • White Slip on Sneakers from Target
  • Vintage white quilted bag purchased from etsy
  • Vintage gold & purple ring

My boyfriend had the same sneaker size imprint as Rocky's hehe*

While we were walking around, I stumbled upon this art store in Philly & had to take a picture of these paintings.  Someone purchase these for me so I can hang it on my wall ;]

The next day we went to the Amish country in Pennsylvania.  I went inside of an Antique mall for the first time! hehe  It was wonderful to walk in & gaze at all of the interesting antiques as well as seeing a few vintage jewelry pieces, accessories & clothes that were there.

I was actually eyeing that 1940s floral wicker basket handbag with velvet ribbon trim but decided to not purchase it & save my money for the rest of the day for food/activities.
We went on a buggy ride to take a tour of the Amish country.  Kelsy, the Amish woman in the picture was nice enough to take a picture with us as well as answering our questions during the tour :)
On the tour Kelsy told us most Amish houses use green curtains to block out the sun & heat especially during the summer because they do not have air conditioners nor do they believe in electricity.  I just realized this house had chickens in front of their house.

Apparently, this small wooden shed in this pic is where they keep their telephone, OUTSIDE of the house LOL Here are the questions the people in the buggy ride as well as myself asked the Amish woman:

person in buggy:  "What happens if you don't hear the phone since the phone is ringing outside and you're inside of the house?"
Amish lady "Kelsy":  "Then they will leave a message and we will call them back."
ME:  "What if it's an emergency?"
Amish lady "Kelsy":  "Then they will call 911, that is why we always have to depend on our neighbors."

Here are some other facts that I learned about the Amish community:
  1. The Amish community only goes to school until the eighth grade.  Afterwards, they decide what they want to do (i.e. work on the farm, work at a store, etc).  Plus, if they wanted to learn more, Kelsy stated they would learn more from their parents and read books.
  2. Men who have beards are married.
  3. They can build a farm in 2 DAYS!!!
  4. Since they do not believe in electricity, they use propane gas to heat up food.
  5. For fun, they read, play games and spend time with family & friends.
Overall, this trip to the Amish community was fascinating and fun.  I purchased handmade fudge, strawberry preserves, strawberry rhubarb jam and shoo fly pie for the boyfriend.  Next road trip is this week and I am excited :)

Cherry Red

I've been M.I.A lately because I have a lot of things on my mind & trying to get things straightened out.  Anyway, here are a couple photos of my most recent outfit from Saturday night.  I went bar hopping with my friends and boyfriend to celebrate with my friend because she passed her nursing exam.  If you read this Jamie, I'm so proud of you & congratulations!! :)

Please excuse how my room looks.  LOL My house was built during the seventies, hence the wooden panels on the walls.  UGH!  There's no point to redecorate my room when I really want to move out and get a place of my own.  However, for now I am still living at home and doing my best to get things back on track so I can be on my own.

outfit for night 1outfit for night
  • 1960s Vintage Gold & Brown Glitter Jacket
  • Forever 21 Scoop Neck T-shirt
  • Gap Jeans (I need to buy a new pair, like NOW! haha)
  • Vintage Brown Flats
  • Vintage Red Quilted Chain Purse
  • Vintage Ring, Gold Pearl Chain Necklace & Bracelet
This will be a quick journal entry but I will have another blog entry possibly this week with some of my most recent purchases.  Gosh, I seriously should not be shopping at a time like this, but I couldn't help it.  Okay, note to self, NO SHOPPING!  `sigh Why me?!  This is so difficult and I hope things will look up, hopefully SOON!

Chick Flicks

For Valentine's Day, my boyfriend was kind enough to watch the Confessions of a Shopaholic movie with me :)  I was afraid that he wouldn't like the movie.  Surprisingly, he really liked the movie despite the girlyness.  I have only read up to Confessions of a Shopaholic goes to Manhattan and the movie was a bit different than the books but I absolutely loved the styling of the wardrobe.  I wish I could have her closet minus the amount of debt she is in.  Overall, I thought the movie was cute, girly & very funny!

I really love her pink macbook.  I wish I got this, but I still love my regular MAC. ;)

My girlfriends called me up the next day to watch He' s just not that into you.  It is definitely a chick flick and I highly recommend this movie for all women to see.  It's so amazing how all of the women in the audience had the same reactions while watching certain parts of the movie HAHA!

Speaking of being a shopaholic,  LOL I recently received this quilted bag in the mail yesterday :)  I always get so excited when I receive things in the mail, it's like giving presents to yourself.  HAHA I have been obsessed with purchasing quilted bags with my friend and this will be added to my collection since I can't afford the price tag of a real CHANEL bag.  `sigh someday, but this will do for now ;P

Here is a video of my boyfriend Patrick singing a Mario Kart Love song that was originally created by some other guy on youtube.  It's a really cute song and I am so proud of Patrick because he has learned the guitar and is learning piano as well.  He has such a lovely voice and I keep urging him to try out for American Idol.  LOL!  However, he is going to graduate this coming May/June and definitely wanted to finish school before pursuing his other dream of becoming a singer :)  Show some love on his youtube page with comments & tell your friends. hehe*  So until then, you can listen to him on his first youtube video below.  I hope you enjoy his singing as much as I do.

Manhattan Vintage Show

About a week ago I worked at the Manhattan Vintage Show with Hala.  We decided to wear these matching floral vintage dresses Hala found.  I'm wearing the shorter version because I'm a shorty HAHA.  It was so much fun to be matching, it was our uniform for the day & we were twins LOL.  Many people had to do a double take while looking at both of us when they came into the booth.  ;)

Dana Weiss, stylist & owner of consciousjewelry.com, stopped by Hala's booth & purchased a long black 70s ribbed turtleneck dress.  Weiss looked so pretty in the dress & it definitely made her necklace stand out.  I told her I loved her style & her personality on the television shows she appeared on Style network.  :)  She said I looked familiar and asked if we've met before.  It was my first time meeting her & she probably has seen me several times shopping at the Manhattan Vintage Show since I shop at every show. hehe*

Weiss gave me her business card & I checked out her website.  I absolutely love her jewelry especially this amethyst signature charm bracelet featured below.  Definitely take a look at her eco-conscious, crystal and gem line.  It's absolutely stunning and breath taking :)

My recent purchases:
  • Free People Winter Wonderland Vest:  on sale for $19.95!
  • Free People Solid Harem Cropped Pant:  on sale for $39.95 - These are so comfy to lounge in.
  • Women's Merona Collection Taryn Cap Toe Ballet Flat in both colors in Ivory & Navy:  I absolutely love these flats that I bought from Target!!!  They look like the flats from Chanel ;P

Wants:
  • American Apparel Black Interlock Pencil Skirt:  $32.00
  • Steve Madden Midory Ankle Peep Toe ankle boots:  on sale $69.99 I want them in purple too and I want to try on the khaki colored boots to see how they look on me.
