Philly Trip & Amish Country

Last week I went on a road trip to Philadelphia with my friends & met up with my boyfriend.  It was really nice to get out of the house.  Plus, the weather was absolutely gorgeous that day!  We went to Geno's to eat a classic philly cheesesteak sandwich & did sight seeing at the stairs that Rocky ran up ;P  I haven't blogged in a LONG time so be prepared for a massive amount of pictures below from my trip:

My friend & I made sure we knew how to order so we wouldn't be sent to the back of the line. HAHA so I ordered "one...cheese..wit"  (Translation:  One Philly Cheesesteak with cheese wiz & onions) It was so delicious & that lasted me most of the day ;P

My friends & I jumping on the "Rocky" stairs :)

Yeah I know we look like tourists, but we had to take a picture in front of the Rocky statue! ;P

My outfit for that day:
  • 60s Green Wool Jacket
  • 60s Pink & Green Pin
  • Plain Mossimo Grey V-neck T-shirt underneath
  • Gap Jeans
  • White Slip on Sneakers from Target
  • Vintage white quilted bag purchased from etsy
  • Vintage gold & purple ring

My boyfriend had the same sneaker size imprint as Rocky's hehe*

While we were walking around, I stumbled upon this art store in Philly & had to take a picture of these paintings.  Someone purchase these for me so I can hang it on my wall ;]

The next day we went to the Amish country in Pennsylvania.  I went inside of an Antique mall for the first time! hehe  It was wonderful to walk in & gaze at all of the interesting antiques as well as seeing a few vintage jewelry pieces, accessories & clothes that were there.

I was actually eyeing that 1940s floral wicker basket handbag with velvet ribbon trim but decided to not purchase it & save my money for the rest of the day for food/activities.
We went on a buggy ride to take a tour of the Amish country.  Kelsy, the Amish woman in the picture was nice enough to take a picture with us as well as answering our questions during the tour :)
On the tour Kelsy told us most Amish houses use green curtains to block out the sun & heat especially during the summer because they do not have air conditioners nor do they believe in electricity.  I just realized this house had chickens in front of their house.

Apparently, this small wooden shed in this pic is where they keep their telephone, OUTSIDE of the house LOL Here are the questions the people in the buggy ride as well as myself asked the Amish woman:

person in buggy:  "What happens if you don't hear the phone since the phone is ringing outside and you're inside of the house?"
Amish lady "Kelsy":  "Then they will leave a message and we will call them back."
ME:  "What if it's an emergency?"
Amish lady "Kelsy":  "Then they will call 911, that is why we always have to depend on our neighbors."

Here are some other facts that I learned about the Amish community:
  1. The Amish community only goes to school until the eighth grade.  Afterwards, they decide what they want to do (i.e. work on the farm, work at a store, etc).  Plus, if they wanted to learn more, Kelsy stated they would learn more from their parents and read books.
  2. Men who have beards are married.
  3. They can build a farm in 2 DAYS!!!
  4. Since they do not believe in electricity, they use propane gas to heat up food.
  5. For fun, they read, play games and spend time with family & friends.
Overall, this trip to the Amish community was fascinating and fun.  I purchased handmade fudge, strawberry preserves, strawberry rhubarb jam and shoo fly pie for the boyfriend.  Next road trip is this week and I am excited :)

Chick Flicks

For Valentine's Day, my boyfriend was kind enough to watch the Confessions of a Shopaholic movie with me :)  I was afraid that he wouldn't like the movie.  Surprisingly, he really liked the movie despite the girlyness.  I have only read up to Confessions of a Shopaholic goes to Manhattan and the movie was a bit different than the books but I absolutely loved the styling of the wardrobe.  I wish I could have her closet minus the amount of debt she is in.  Overall, I thought the movie was cute, girly & very funny!

I really love her pink macbook.  I wish I got this, but I still love my regular MAC. ;)

My girlfriends called me up the next day to watch He' s just not that into you.  It is definitely a chick flick and I highly recommend this movie for all women to see.  It's so amazing how all of the women in the audience had the same reactions while watching certain parts of the movie HAHA!

Speaking of being a shopaholic,  LOL I recently received this quilted bag in the mail yesterday :)  I always get so excited when I receive things in the mail, it's like giving presents to yourself.  HAHA I have been obsessed with purchasing quilted bags with my friend and this will be added to my collection since I can't afford the price tag of a real CHANEL bag.  `sigh someday, but this will do for now ;P

Here is a video of my boyfriend Patrick singing a Mario Kart Love song that was originally created by some other guy on youtube.  It's a really cute song and I am so proud of Patrick because he has learned the guitar and is learning piano as well.  He has such a lovely voice and I keep urging him to try out for American Idol.  LOL!  However, he is going to graduate this coming May/June and definitely wanted to finish school before pursuing his other dream of becoming a singer :)  Show some love on his youtube page with comments & tell your friends. hehe*  So until then, you can listen to him on his first youtube video below.  I hope you enjoy his singing as much as I do.

Martha Stewart Show

Well, I've been doing my best trying to stick to my new year's resolutions.  However, I've been sick with a bad cold this whole week, meaning I haven't been able to work out.  =\  I really hope I feel better by tomorrow, so I can workout again.  My other resolutions are going fairly well, I just need to be patient (mind you I can be very impatient at times, but I am very good at hiding it until I go crazy haha!)

I called in sick for two days and had to try to make myself feel better on Wednesday because I went to the Martha Stewart Show with my sister, mother & my brother-in-law's mom in the city.  For some weird reason my mother thought it was filmed in Connecticut when in reality it's filmed in New York.  I think she thought it was filmed in Connecticut since Martha lives in Connecticut. LOL Oh the things my mother says sometimes, well all the time haha!  We had a lot of fun and right next door was the Tyra Banks show.  Let me tell you, you can definitely tell the difference between Martha's viewers and Tyra's viewers. haha Tyra's viewers were either wearing tacky shoes or trying too hard to look good on TV.  Meanwhile, Martha's viewers were older and mothers hehe*

Here are pictures that I took before and after the show:

I adore Martha's art & crafts corner! I absolutely love it!

The show was based on what to cook or prepare for a superbowl party.  Thankfully, we didn't have to wear jerseys and I don't even watch nor like football.  We were seated all the way at the top/back.  Oh well, we got free stuff and was able to see the mayhem that goes on behind the scenes when they go to a commercial break.

Our freebies included:
  • Traveling Radio:  It's valued at $200.  I'm not exactly sure why it would cost $200 when it looks like a regular radio.  Oh well, free radio haha
  • $50 Gift Card to Dick's Sporting Goods:  I guess I'll use it to purchase workout clothes.
  • Emeril Lagassee's knife:  Ooo! My first kitchen knife! :)
  • NFL Cookbook:  I skimmed through it and there are some recipes I would like to try out.
I kept checking the screen to see if we got on TV and I only saw us for a quick second when the camera was filming across the audience.  Hopefully, I got my 1 minute of TV appearance haha!  The episode I went to will be aired on Friday, January 30.  Don't miss it, you might see me! :)

Halloween

I think the last time I actually dressed up for Halloween was in High school, so sad lol. Patrick & I dressed up as Bonnie & Clyde :) We had so much fun dressing up like them. I'm glad that I planned a little get together with my friends, because I realized we never got dressed up on Halloween. We had so much fun that we are going to do it again next year. Here are some pictures:

We did our best to emulate the original photos of Bonnie & Clyde. :)

On the side note: Today was a beautiful fall day and I took my dog for a walk. I love how it's chilly & sunny at the same time. The leaves were yellow, orange and red. I love autumn colors especially in the sunlight and how it falls to the ground. Unlike the other days it's been icky and warm. I am excited about fall & it better stay this way, because for the past couple of days I I've been sweating underneath my winter coat. yuck!

Thanksgiving & Christmas is arriving around the corner! Yippy! You know what that means... christmas lights, decorations & lots of food haha! I am so thrilled to see Christmas decorations and snowflake lights on the light posts while walking in the city and downtown. It makes me feel cheery inside :)

I've been organizing my rooms (which is kind of like an apartment, but it's not) haha. Once everything is in place I'm going to hang up christmas lights & I am even thinking of purchasing a small christmas tree. I'm very excited, can you tell??? hehe*

I changed the layout of my blog and I absolutely love it now. I'm going to add more pictures and give it more oomph, but for now I love it hehe :)

Dinner Date & Movie

Three weeks ago I had dinner with my boyfriend & after that we watched Dark Knight.  Dark Knight is freekin AWESOME!!! hehe I was so proud of Heath Ledger, it's so sad that he passed away at a very young age.  :(  I applaud his performance in the Dark Knight.  I must admit, playing the role of Joker must have been really difficult but he managed to act as a crazy psychopath very well.

Anyways.. here is a picture of my outfit that I wore on my dinner/movie date :)

Summer Bliss ... .. .

- AMT Vintage Summer Dress (My favorite part is the bow in the back :] )
- AMT Vintage Orange Floral Earrings
- AMT Vintage Owl Pendant Necklace
- AMT Vintage Floral Heart Ring
- HALA VINTAGE Basket Handbag
- Afaze Gold Studded T-Strap Wedge Sandals

My boyfriend & I ate at one of our favorite restaurants, T-thai in Hoboken.  The lighting is dim with candle light, cozy and there are tables outside as well if you prefer to eat outside on a beautiful night.  Did I mention the food is delicious?! :)

Dinner with Pat :)

Dinner & Movie with Patrick
After we bought our tickets to watch Dark Knight.  We bumped into one of our high school friends and started talking.  During our conversation some strange woman approached me and started talking to me.  Here is what happened:

Strange Woman: "I need to talk to you."
Me:  "Yeah.  Who are you?"
Strange Woman:  "A very good thing is going to happen to you."
Me:  (realizing .. Oh she's one of those "people" haha) "ummmm...??"
Patrick:  (brings me to his side) "I'm the good thing that happened to her in her life haha!"
Strange Woman:  "You really need to know what it is."
Me:  "Are you going to charge me to know what it is."
Strange Woman: "Yeah..."
Me:  "How much?"
Strange Woman:  "20 bucks"
Me:  (Shocked!) "20 bucks!  We just spent 20 bucks for movie tickets! Are you serious?!"
Strange Woman:  "Okay, 10 bucks."
Patrick:  (looks at me)  "Don't do it."
Me:  (realizing I would never pay 10 or even 20 bucks to pay to know my so called 'future' and knew that she probably would have made it up.  Plus, I'm Catholic and I would not want to go against my beliefs to know what lays ahead of me in the future.  What would be the point of life? Right?)
Me:  "That's OK.   I don't want to know"
Strange Woman:   "You sure?"
Me:  "Yeah."
Strange Woman:  "Okay, well if you change your mind, here's my information."  (hands over her flyer)
Me:  (Takes flyer even though I am going to throw it away)
The lady walks away and we start laughing because we read her flyer and her name is Bujie! AHAHA What a name!  We look at her & she's smoking a cigarette.  Crazy people these days... haha.

I've been really good with my shopping habits.  I have only been spending money on things I need not "want." haha It's been really difficult.  However, I keep reminding myself that I work hard for my money and I really need to save it for things that really matter such as student loans that I will be paying in a couple of months, food! haha, etc..  However, I did take pictures of my purchases during my last few days of shopping like a mad woman haha
